While visiting Siem Reap, Cambodia, Ronald and François met up with Brother Totet Banaynal at the Catholic Church of St John’s. https://siemreapcatholic.WordPress.com This site provides good information on the mission of the Catholic Church in Siem Reap, its Catholic communities and activities of charity towards the poor.
Brother Totet took the time to have a coffee with us before leaving for a few days to a distant village. He arranged for us to join his staff Mr. Saven at Miss Mai to one of their learning centers, located 45 minutes from Siem Reap, North of Angkor Wat. But before that he described with passion the work of his Church. If Angor Wat is recognized as temples lost in the jungle of Cambodia, the poor in his region are also “Angkor Wat’s” because they were refugees who were returned in their native region.
At the Learning Center we helped prepare and distribute rice soup to the young students who often go to school in the morning without eating. The teacher and all the students were sincerely grateful for this gesture.
The mission of Siem Reap works with 6 other learning centres in the region. The emphasis is to help children and youth who are the future of the country. This morning’s rice soup program fed 120 children at a cost of US$20. It is offered at six learning centers. Providing a small boat to a floating village is US $250. This boat gives 5 students an opportunity to go to school.
